Gifs are making a comeback in email design
A blast from the past, all too well not necessarily a past you’re likely to forget. E-mail marketers are always searching for new ways to entice their audience. So it’s out with the old and in with the new, or bringing sexy back.
Plainly speaking, in the old days GIF animation was something to be ashamed of: bad graphics, flashing banners, crude cartoon-style animations, solid colours and the list goes on. The fact that a few people kind of elevated it to art status contributed a lot to the renewed interest.
Attraction
An animated GIF enhances the online persona to email campaigns and adds character to compatible social media platforms.
Your audience is attracted to the design of an email, the interface (layout) and the compelling statement coupled with an artistic flair. Recreating and capturing an audience through GIF’s is a breath of fresh air to say the least.
Create easy digestible content
Rich Media allows agencies to create complex ads that can evoke strong user response. Whether it’s for social media, the next e-mail marketing campaign, or some GIF’s into your email signature (or perhaps not). There’s no denying how pervasive rich media has become. GIF animation is an interesting kind of alternative to rich media such as online videos.
GIF’s as appose to Video
GIF’s are arguably an alternative to video content which is great. A 30 second video can easily be compressed into a GIF of a thousand frames or more. It appeals to an audience without the over the top larger file which generates a chunk out of data charges. The form of animated GIF’s has become a radical source of artistic design and movement. It outlines a variety in colour of a particular product and showcase different versions, it also captures a simple resolution of image in a matter of seconds.
GIF’s not only makes an email look beautiful, it also helps to
- Create a call to action
- Create focus when a flashing background to an image is added
- Shift focus to product for example; adding a sparkle to highlight a diamond in advert
- Showcase a variety of items by making your model come alive through adding different options which showcases a range of colours (as seen in the image above)
- Create previews of items in different styles, formats or colours and show bits and pieces in an email campaign, application launch, and/or infographics.
To GIF or not to GIF
It is the answer, not the question. Using a GIF can easily become a trendy new way of brand marketing through creative storytelling. Scrape together a board of images and turn it into a GIF. Enhance your product imaginary for email marketing campaigns and add personality and a bit of a delight to your next newsletter or email marketing campaign.
